Germany delivers Europe's best forklift performance
On September 26, 2009, the reigning German champions took the title of "Best European Forklifting Nation" at the "3rd International Championships" in Aschaffenburg (Germany). With skill, speed, and precision, the national team led by Stephan Leifels, Jens Mühle and Marco Wedhorn relegated Czech Republic and Austria to second and third place, respectively. Nine countries sent their three best forklift operators to compete as a team in the international competition: Spain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and Belgium squared off this year against Germany, the defending champions. Nearly 15,000 spectators watched the competition on Aschaffenburg’s Schlossplatz.
Since 2007, many European countries have held their own national forklift championships, sending their top three winners to Aschaffenburg to compete in the "International Championships," which run concurrently with the finale of the German national championship. Aschaffenburg is considered to be the center of the stacking sport. The German national forklift championship took place for the fifth time September 25 and 26, 2009. The only requirement for participation is that competitors have a valid forklift operator's license – otherwise experience, instinct, and speed are the skills that really count.
